Camp 2013

We're back at Camp Solelim for yet another summer! Camp is at full capacity and it feels full and lively, with campers in every nook and cranny at all hours of the day!

Here's a little bit from some campers about how they're enjoying camp:

This is my first summer at Solelim. I entered with an open mind, ready to build friendships and everlasting bonds. Although I have only been here for a few days, I am already having a blast. My tent mates have been excellent and I truly enjoy their company. The activities such as basketball, hockey, and ski that I have participated in have been a lot of fun. In addition, the programming has been amazing. So far I have participated in many different programs and they have all been different, yet really fun. As I spend the next six weeks at Solelim, I will make sure to truly enjoy myself. I am sure that by the end of the summer I will be very sad knowing that I will never be coming back to Solelim.

What camp means to me.

Solelim is like a 2nd home to me. It’s a place where I can be myself while making friends that can last a lifetime. It also helps me connect with Israel and Judaism by strengthening my connection with my heritage. Throughout my year with CYJ I have been exposed to the 5 pillars of this beautiful camp, and as post summer begins, I look forward to making memories with my chevra.

Post Pre-Camp

As this is my second summer at Camp Solelim I had the privilege of participating in Post pre-camp. This was an amazing experience and gave me the opportunity to bond with my co posts. From the minute I stepped off the bus I could already tell this was going to be an unreal summer, and so far it has lived up to my expectations. The induction into being a post showed me how tight of a bond there is within our unit as we used the support of each other. The camping trip was also a fun bonding event and gave me an opportunity to establish relationships with others and the staff. Those two days most definitely set the tone for what I know will be a great summer ahead.

Camp is such a super place to me. To waste away summer days and nights. Camp is so awesome and great. From the amazing waterfront that we have, and the staff that help to run it. To the basketball courts and the awesome ballers throughout Solelim. My favourite activity is volleyball because I love playing in the sun. Also I love spending time with my fellow rookies & posts. The counselors are very nice and awesome. This is an awesome camp. It is so refreshing and awesome. Tuck is also one of my favourite things in camp. The sun is shining and it is so nice at Camp Solelim. I love hanging out with my friends. It is so much fun. My number one activity to do is to play basketball.

Ever since I left camp as a rookie I felt like there was always a missing component of my life. So when there was only a few weeks left till camp I had many doubts and questions. Such as, will I be a good post? Will the rookies be fun? Will my individual summer be as good and as fun as last year? The most important question to me was about my individual summer. The reason that was so important to me is because last year I got on Laire and came in second, I got on survivor and came in fourth, and to top it off I won the superbowl in the SFL. So my question was how can I make this summer just as good, knowing I wouldn’t be able to do the same things as last year.

Its only been four days of camp, but its already on a great track. Post pre-camp was a great way to unite the Post unit to help make us better leaders, and most of all better friends towards each other. So far camp as a post is very different than it was as a rookie, although its only been four days. Even the moment I got off the bus was different. Instead of being scared and awkward, I felt comfortable and at home. I didn’t have to work hard to make friends with staff this year because of the strong bond I formed with them last year.

After being at Solelim for a year I have come to know what this camp is about and what it has to offer. I am able to spend less time worrying about what camp is and more time enjoying it.

Knowing that every week gets better at Solelim, I cant wait to see how camp escalates throughout the six weeks as a post at Camp Solelim.

Camp Solelim is a great camp, and possibly one of the best camps in Ontario. Solelim is like a 2nd home to me, and probably also a 2nd home to every other camp here at Solelim. The great things about Solelim are the great chugs such as Ball Hockey and Sports Potpourri. There is also great food, great campers, and great staff. If you’re into football there's the SFL (Solelim Football League).

Coming back to camp this year as a post is going to be a great experience. Because this is my second year here I know almost all the campers and have gained special bonds with each of them. Leaving Solelim at the end of the summer is going to be an extremely sad moment for me, and the rest of my fellow posts. It will  be very sad because it potentially could be my last day ever here at Solelim, unless I would be fortunate enough to return here as staff in 2016. I will truly miss Camp Solelim and I hope to return in 2016.
